In the previous post, I mentioned that February 10th was my 30th birthday. I had long hoped for my 30th to be a big deal… my imagination tended to run toward me & hubby on a warm beach somewhere. HOWEVER, since my 30th birthday was also the day I was officially 37 weeks pregnant, that dream was squashed. Not only would my doctor not have let me leave like that, I would have never put on a bathing suit in front of ANYONE. Nope.
So, I was left wondering… what will we do to celebrate? And, until yesterday, I was left in the dark about all of the plans. 🙂
It started when Matt called about 12:15pm and said he was almost home. He was just there for his lunch hour, but came bearing gifts and the largest cookie cake I’ve ever seen. YUM. I got an ipod nano (my first i-technology… I know, I’m behind the times), the car hookup for the nano, and also a cellphone car charger (yes, a more practical gift, but since I never remember to plug mine in at home, a much needed one!).
After he left, I put the kids down for naps hoping that sweet girl would actually take one as the cryptic message at the start of the day mentioned “staying out late”. She did not. Therefore, I did not. I did manage to rest a little, which was good enough.
We left at 5:00pm as the message had stated, and started driving toward town. Keep in mind, I still have NO clue what we’re doing or where we’re going. I had mentioned that I wouldn’t mind going to PF Chang’s, a more upscale Chinese restaurant, but that was not to happen. We pull into a church parking lot, and I was completely confused. ??? Then, out of a car pops our best couple friends! What??? Now, I was VERY confused… I thought her parents were coming in that night for the weekend. (Turns out, just her mom came that day, in order to watch their kids while we went out.)
So, we get in their car, and start off. Still, I have not an idea as to where we’re going, but now it’s four of us, and so much fun. 🙂
We ended up at Morton’s Steakhouse. I’ve only been there once, and it was a looooong time ago, like, before we were married. It is soooooooo good. They were prepared for the birthday at the restaurant with specially printed menu sheets that said, “happy birthday Whitney” at the top. I also got to blow out the candle and be sung to. It was the best meal I’ve eaten in a long time. Ahhh…
After eating, I discovered that was not the end of the road for the evening. We drove to see the rodeo in town, which is actually one of the bigger ones put on in the country. I had never been to a rodeo before, and after making it to our incredibly high-up seats (I thought I was going to pass out on the way up!), it was so much fun to watch! The bronc riding, the bull riding, the barrel racing… like looking into a completely different world. After the events there was a short concert put on by Third Day, which was also good.
We then came home. We probably got back to our house close to midnight. Thankfully for me, the kids went to bed late last night too, and so slept until 8:00am. 🙂 Unfortunately for Matt, he still had to get up at 5:30am . 😦
Overall: GREAT night. Good food, fun times, friends… couldn’t have asked for a better 30th birthday night.
