I see, I see!!!

So, I think I mentioned a while back that I wanted to switch our homeschool math curriculum.  I like A Beka for so many reasons; their math curriculum is not one of them. 🙂

After much research, and extensive emailing/ facebooking/ phone-conversation-ing, I made my choice, asked Matt for the “ok” to order, and prayed that I had made the correct decision.

I did. 🙂

We are now using the Math U See program.  There are a few reasons I chose to go this one, here they are:

1.  Primer.  Most math programs don’t start until the Kinder/1st level.  While Rachel is above simple counting and number recognition, she was not yet ready for adding/subtracting, etc…  Math U See offers the Primer level, which basically introduces a variety of topics.  The emphasis is not on mastery (yet), but on introduction.

2.  DVD.  I am an auditory-learner.  Rachel is too.  If I can see and hear at the same time, it’s ideal.  So, having the DVD lesson to watch before the start of each new section is lovely.  I learn how to teach it, and she learns how to pay attention to someone else for a few minutes.

3.  Manipulatives.  The name “Math U See” is based off of the program being manipulative based.  For any parent who struggles with their child because they need more “action”, this is great.

I am not sure if I will continue to use this program throughout homeschooling, but for now, this year, it is perfect.

Any one else have experience with it?  Love it?  Hate it?  I’m always curious to see what other people have to say.  The beauty of homeschooling is that you can choose what works for you and your child; you’re not forced in to a mold made to fit someone else.
